What is the main reason why good biomarkers are really needed for diagnosing prostate cancer?

At present, most of the performed prostate biopsies are based on the PSA value only. And the results of these biopsies are often negative, in up to a third of the men having a prostate biopsy. Also a lot of insignificant prostate cancers are found that should not be detected because they will never do any harm.

We want to perform less invasive tests by really choosing men who are at greatest risk of having significant prostate cancer
