What is the main reason why good biomarkers are really needed for diagnosing prostate cancer?

Because the population is getting older, more and more men are at risk of getting prostate cancer. At the moment, prostate cancer diagnosis relies mainly on the gold standards: serum PSA, a digital rectal examination, and prostate biopsy. There is a need for more precise tests to identify those men that have prostate cancer and need a prostate biopsy. And on top of that, we only need to identify those men that have significant prostate cancer.
