What are the characteristics of the ideal biomarker for identifying patients with prostate cancer?

Prof. Markus Graefen

(28 June 2017)

The most important feature of a biomarker should be its predictive value. If this is high, only clinically significant prostate cancer will be identified. This is the type of cancer that will decrease the patient’s life expectancy and where treatment is necessary. [On top of that, it is important to make sure that the risk of missing this type of prostate cancer is low].
