How does multiparametric MRI compare to biomarkers for identifying patients for prostate biopsy?

Prof. Markus Graefen

(28 June 2017)

The rapid optimisation of MRI technology and the advances in prostate MRI have led to improved diagnostic performance for the detection of clinically significant prostate cancer. Biomarkers are a great addition to MRI: they can determine who is at risk of having clinically significant prostate cancer and thus identify candidates for a prostate biopsy. MRI can then be used to see where the lesion is and, in this way, guide the biopsy.
